Alia Farah is the founder of the Portland Music Room. She holds a degree in music from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and has been teaching for 20 years. She is a member of both the Music Teachers National Association and the Oregon Music Teachers Association. For several years she was the music director at St. Stephens Church, where she ran the music program and directed the choir. She also works with the Portland Playhouse as the singing instructor for their apprentice program.
Alia is an active performer as well. Recent projects have included The Alialujah Choir, a trio that plays original music showcasing vocal harmonies. The music of this group has been featured on NPR's Studio Sessions, on Itunes Indie Spotlight, and on the TV show, Being Human, as well as MTV, VH1, IFC and Oregon ArtBeat. Alia has also been the keyboardist and harmony singer in M. Ward's 2016 and 2018 tours, performing around the US, Canada and Europe. They also performed on several TV shows including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien, and The Late Late Show with James Corden. In 2022, Alia was the keyboardist and harmony singer for She & Him's national tour. She recently released a solo album of original music titled Hand Over Hand.
